#25: Squash and egg

Another small panel, 5 x 7 inch, painted with a limited palette of red, yellow, black and white oils. Not entirely successful, but then, they never are.

The photo didn't get the colours quite right, but it's not too far off.

  1. I suspect that the egg and squash appear a bit too close... too crammed together... so that they begin to inhabit the same space and visually flatten out. I have struggled with similar issues with my figurative paintings... although I have always had a certain Mannerist edge to my work in spite of not being overly fond of that moment of art history.

  2. Yes, they are indeed a bit too crammed. Of course, I notice that kind of thing only when it is too late. :-)
