The Illustrated Father Brown (series)

One book in the series is currently available, now absolutely free; more may or may not follow.

The Innocence of Father Brown

The first volume of G K Chesterton's classic Father Brown stories. Mysterious footsteps, an invisible murderer, a shyster with a new religion, and many more. This edition includes a set of black and white illustrations specifically prepared for this volume (about three or four per story) - unlike many other re-publishers of old books, I don't simply go swipe irrelevant pictures from the web and then call my book "illustrated", and I don't use AI to generate pictures either. Much more fun to do it the old-fashioned way: with a pencil on paper. I'm sure Father Brown would approve.

Now, I first had this book published on Amazon - they allow one to republish public domain content, on condition that you add value by, for example, adding illustrations. But Amazon seems to be in the terminal stages of what Cory Doctorow refers to as enshittification. The term has even made it into Wikipedia here. Basically, it's the process by which large companies care ever less about their clients, to the point where they become unbearable, steaming piles of you-know-what.

At the time of this writing, my edition the book is still up on Amazon, but good luck trying to find it. Sometimes you do, and sometimes you don't. If you use my name in the search, you may find my edition, or you may find someone else's edition. I'm probably going to unpublish it from Amazon.

But here's a PDF copy, free of charge, with no strings of any kind attached (link will open in a new window):
