Landscape with cabbage tree

Acrylics on Masonite, 15 x 20 cm:

A rather characteristic kind of landscape in some areas of South Africa: flat, grassy plains dotted with hills and cabbage trees. These trees are named after their cabbage-like leaves, and are also known as kiepersol trees.

This work is for sale on my Daily Paintworks Gallery.

Some random sketches

I have been taking a break from painting in order to study up on some aspects of art that have always eluded me. How long I'll be busy with that, I don't know, but I'll post the occasional sketch here just to keep the blog alive.

Two still life sketches done from life:

And two in ballpoint pen plus colored pencil, cobbled together from various reference photos:

Country cottage

And now for something completely different. Country cottage, acrylic on board, ACEO size (= 2.5 x 3.5 inches, or 64 x 89 mm). And yes, light blazing from all the windows, a la Kinkade. Haven't done one of these in ages, and I had so much fun I think I'll do a whole series...

Grapes, mushrooms

And another small one. I really should do a whole series of them, but we'll see...
Oil on board, 10 x 15 cm (= 4 x 6 inches):

A YUGE cow

EDIT, 27/11/2019:

The book announced below has since been unpublished, so it is no longer available at Amazon. I have decided to make it available for free at a rather nice little website I just discovered, called Storyweaver.

My latest children's book, Itumeleng and the Moo-normous Cow, is finally available!

You can read the first few pages on my Books page here.

An Afrikaans version is also available:

It's a bit of a departure from my previous books, in that it is extensively illustrated. I had so much fun with it, I think I'm going to stick to this format for a while!
